Kleinia petraea
Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 11.
Trailing Jade (Kleinia petraea, syn. Senecio jacobsenii) is a low-growing, drought-tolerant succulent from East Africa with thick, overlapping flat leaves that trail to 3 feet. It produces cheerful orange composite flowers in fall and winter, and is hardy to zone 9b with well-drained soil and frost protection on rare freeze nights. Starting at $12.95.
Trailing Jade prefers bright light with some direct morning or late-afternoon sun; in NE Florida's summer, protect from intense midday sun to prevent leaf scorch — a spot with partial shade performs best outdoors.
Water sparingly as a drought-tolerant succulent; allow soil to dry out between waterings, and reduce further in winter when the plant is semi-dormant — overwatering in Florida's humid conditions is the chief cause of rot.
Plant in very well-draining, gritty succulent mix with at least 50% inorganic material (perlite or coarse sand); fertilize once in spring with a dilute balanced succulent fertilizer — no feeding in winter.
