Haworthia
Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 11.
Haworthia (Haworthia spp.) is a genus of small, rosette-forming succulents native to southern Africa, notable for their intricately patterned leaves — often banded, windowed, or tuberculate — in shades of green, brown, and near-black. Most species remain compact, typically under 6 inches, making them ideal windowsill and container plants that tolerate lower light than most succulents. Many species are now reclassified under Haworthiopsis or Tulista, but Haworthia remains the common trade name. Starting at $7.95.
Bloom season. Good planting window.
Bloom season. Handles summer heat well once established.
Ideal planting window.
Retains foliage through winter. May need protection below 25°F.
Haworthia prefers bright indirect or filtered light — avoid harsh direct Florida sun which will scorch leaves. A covered patio, shade cloth, or north/east-facing exposure is ideal; unlike most succulents, it thrives in lower light conditions.
Water infrequently and allow soil to dry completely between waterings. In Florida's rainy summer season (June–Oct), container growing is strongly recommended so excess moisture can be controlled; soggy soil causes fatal root rot.
Plant in a coarse, fast-draining cactus/succulent mix with added perlite or sand. Container growing in terra cotta with drainage holes is ideal for NE Florida. Fertilize sparingly with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer once or twice during the warm growing season.
