Delosperma cooperi
Fresh this week. Last restocked Jun 15.
Ice Plant (Delosperma cooperi) is a low-growing, mat-forming succulent ground cover from South Africa with small, succulent leaves and vivid magenta-pink daisy-like flowers that open in full sun from spring through fall. The glistening, water-storing cells on the leaf surface sparkle in sunlight, inspiring the common name. It is widely planted as a drought-tolerant, weed-suppressing ground cover for sunny slopes, rock gardens, and border edges. Starting at $6.95.

Retains foliage through winter.
Requires full sun (6+ hours daily) for best flowering and plant health. In NE Florida, excellent drainage is equally important — summer rainfall can cause crown rot if soil stays wet.
Extremely drought-tolerant once established; water sparingly. In NE Florida's wet season, natural rainfall is usually sufficient — avoid any supplemental irrigation unless the plant shows visible stress, as soggy soil quickly leads to root rot.
Needs sharply drained, lean sandy or gravelly soil — NE Florida's sandy soils are well-suited. Avoid amending with rich organic matter, which retains too much moisture. Fertilizer is rarely needed and can harm the plant.
