Dyckia
Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 11.
Dyckia (Dyckia spp.) is a genus of terrestrial bromeliads from the dry grasslands and rocky outcrops of South America, particularly Brazil, forming tight rosettes of stiff, spine-edged leaves in colors ranging from silver and green to bronze and near-black. Unlike most bromeliads, dyckias are not monocarpic — they offset prolifically and bloom repeatedly, sending up spikes of small orange or yellow flowers. Prized by collectors for their rugged texture and extreme drought tolerance. Starting at $34.95.

Bloom season. Handles summer heat well once established.
Ideal planting window.
Retains foliage through winter.
Plant dyckia in full sun; it thrives in Florida's intense sun and heat and is one of the few bromeliads that performs best without any shade.
Dyckia is extremely drought-tolerant and needs little to no supplemental irrigation once established in NE Florida; avoid overwatering as excess moisture causes root rot — let the soil dry out completely between waterings.
Plant in sandy, fast-draining soil; dyckia requires very little fertilizer — an occasional light application of a diluted balanced fertilizer in spring and summer is sufficient, and rich or heavily amended soils are unnecessary.
