Bloom season. Retains foliage through winter. Can be planted in mild winter periods.
Rosemary requires full sun — at least 6 hours daily. In NE Florida's sandy soils and bright sun it thrives year-round. Do not plant in shade or partly shaded areas, as poor light encourages disease and leggy growth.
Rosemary is drought tolerant once established and suffers from overwatering. Allow soil to dry between waterings; in NE Florida, natural rainfall is often sufficient after the first growing season. Excellent drainage is essential — standing water or soggy soil causes root rot quickly.
Plant in lean, sandy, well-drained soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (5.8–6.5). Rosemary does not need rich soil — over-fertilization causes lush but disease-prone growth. A light application of balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring is sufficient; do not fertilize in summer or fall in Florida.
