Arachis glabrata
Fresh this week. Last restocked Apr 8.
Perennial Peanut (Arachis glabrata) is a low-growing, nitrogen-fixing groundcover native to South America, producing cheerful bright yellow peanut-like flowers nearly year-round in warm climates. It forms a dense, attractive turf-like mat and is widely promoted in Florida as a low-maintenance, no-mow lawn alternative. Starting at $6.95.

Bloom season. Ideal planting window.
Retains foliage through winter.
Performs best in full sun; tolerates partial shade but produces thinner, less uniform coverage. At least 6 hours of direct sun yields the densest mat and most prolific flowering.
Once established (typically by the second growing season), perennial peanut is highly drought-tolerant and rarely needs supplemental irrigation except during extended dry spells. Water regularly for the first season to aid establishment.
Thrives in Florida's well-drained sandy soils with no nitrogen fertilizer needed — it fixes atmospheric nitrogen as a legume. If soil phosphorus is low, a small amount of potassium-magnesium sulfate may help. No herbicides or pesticides are typically required.

Shares 7 of the same needs: full sun, low water, sandy, salt tolerance, deer resistance, zone 9a hardiness, and pollinator-friendly.
