American Beautyberry grows in full sun to part shade; it fruits most heavily in full sun but is one of few native shrubs that also produces well in filtered shade under pines or oaks. In NE Florida, it performs reliably in both exposures.
Drought-tolerant once established; thrives on NE Florida's natural rainfall without supplemental irrigation. Water during the establishment period and during extended droughts. It adapts to sandy, poor soils and summer heat without issue.
Adaptable to sandy, loamy, clay, and acidic soils common throughout NE Florida. No regular fertilization needed; prune heavily in late winter (to the ground or to 12 inches) to stimulate vigorous new growth, which produces the best berry display.
