Fresh this week. Last restocked Apr 8.
Japanese privet (Ligustrum japonicum) is a vigorous evergreen shrub or small tree from Japan and Korea, producing glossy dark green leaves, fragrant white flower panicles in spring, and clusters of blue-black berries. Widely used for hedges and screens in NE Florida; note that UF/IFAS rates it high invasive risk statewide — site responsibly and remove volunteer seedlings. Starting at $14.95.

Retains foliage through winter.
Ligustrum thrives in full sun to partial shade in NE Florida; full sun produces the densest growth and most prolific spring bloom, while partial shade is tolerated with slightly more open form.
Water regularly during establishment, then reduce to moderate irrigation; once established, Ligustrum is moderately drought-tolerant and requires only supplemental watering during extended dry spells in NE Florida.
Adaptable to sandy, loam, or clay soils with good drainage; avoid standing water. In NE Florida's sandy soils, fertilize once in spring with a balanced slow-release fertilizer. Note: UF/IFAS flags L. japonicum as high-invasion risk in Florida — avoid planting near natural areas and remove bird-dispersed seedlings promptly.
