Bloom season. Ideal planting window.
Retains foliage through winter.
Duranta flowers most heavily in full sun (6+ hours daily) but tolerates partial shade. In NE Florida, full-sun placement produces the most vibrant flower display and fastest growth; partial-shade plants bloom less but still perform well as screening shrubs.
Water regularly until established; once mature, Duranta is quite drought tolerant and seldom needs supplemental irrigation in NE Florida except during extended dry spells. It is not salt tolerant, so avoid sites exposed to salt spray.
Grows in most well-drained soils including sandy Florida soils without heavy amendment. Fertilize with a balanced slow-release granular fertilizer two to three times per year (spring, summer, early fall) to sustain vigorous growth. Note: UF/IFAS predicts Duranta to be invasive in Florida — avoid planting near natural areas and remove fruiting branches to limit self-seeding.
