Queen Palm (Syagrus romanzoffiana) is a tall, fast-growing South American palm with a smooth, ringed gray trunk and a full canopy of long, arching pinnate fronds. Bloom season. Can be planted with extra attention to watering.
Ideal planting window.
Retains foliage through winter. May need protection below 25°F.
Plant in full sun; Queen Palm requires direct sun to thrive and maintain its full, arching canopy. Shading causes slow growth and sparse frond development.
Water regularly during establishment and during drought; once established, moderate supplemental irrigation improves appearance and growth. Ensure well-drained soil to prevent root rot.
Apply a slow-release palm fertilizer with high manganese and magnesium (such as an 8-2-12-4 formulation) three times per year. Queen Palms in NE Florida are highly susceptible to manganese and magnesium deficiencies in sandy, acidic soils; never prune green fronds. Be aware of Ganoderma butt rot and Fusarium wilt — disinfect pruning tools between trees.
