Fresh this week. Last restocked Jun 19.
Indian hawthorn (Rhaphiolepis indica) is a compact, mounding evergreen shrub from southern China with leathery dark green leaves, clusters of pink or white flowers in spring, and small blue-black berries. It is a popular landscape shrub prized for heat, drought, and salt tolerance. Starting at $14.95.
Bloom season. Good planting window.
Handles summer heat well once established.
Ideal planting window.
Retains foliage through winter.
Plant in full sun — Indian Hawthorn needs at least 6 hours of direct sun daily for best density, flowering, and disease resistance. Partial shade encourages Entomosporium leaf spot, a serious fungal disease in Florida's humid climate.
Drought-tolerant once established; avoid overhead irrigation entirely in NE Florida to reduce Entomosporium leaf spot. Water at the base as needed during dry periods. Do not overwater — well-drained soil is essential.
Grows well in NE Florida's sandy or loamy well-drained soils. Avoid fertilizing plants showing leaf spot symptoms, as new growth is most susceptible. For healthy plants, apply a balanced slow-release shrub fertilizer once in spring.
