Garberia heterophylla
Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 4.
Garberia (Garberia heterophylla) is a Florida endemic shrub found exclusively in the state's sandy scrub habitats, bearing clusters of fragrant rosy-purple flowers in fall that are important nectar sources for native bees and butterflies. It is among the rarest shrubs available for Florida native gardens. Starting at $9.95.
Good planting window.
Handles summer heat well once established.
Bloom season. Ideal planting window.
Retains foliage through winter.
Requires full sun — critical for survival and flowering. Plant in an open, unshaded location; even partial shade in Florida's scrub-adapted conditions can weaken the plant and reduce bloom.
Extremely drought-tolerant once established in sandy soil; water only during the first season to establish deep roots. Do not irrigate established plants — excess moisture causes root rot. Never plant in retention areas or wet sites.
Plant exclusively in dry, infertile, well-drained sandy or sandy-loam soil mimicking its native Florida scrub habitat. Do not fertilize — added nutrients are harmful and promote disease. Avoid organic matter amendments that retain moisture.
