Buttonsage (Lantana involucrata) is a Florida native evergreen shrub with aromatic, rough-textured leaves and year-round clusters of small white to lavender flowers beloved by butterflies and other pollinators. Hardy through zone 8 and native to coastal peninsular Florida, it thrives in full sun and dry, sandy soils with minimal care.

Plant in full sun for best bloom production. Lantana involucrata tolerates light shade but flowers most heavily and maintains a denser habit in a site receiving 6 or more hours of direct sun daily.

Thrives in poor, dry, well-drained sandy soils typical of NE Florida. Little to no fertilizer is needed — excessive nutrients produce leggy growth at the expense of flowers. Periodic pruning keeps the shrub dense and productive.
