Fresh this week. Last restocked Jun 25.
White Fringe Tree (Chionanthus virginicus) is a native deciduous shrub or small tree of the eastern United States, spectacular in late spring when it is draped in feathery, fragrant white flower clusters that give it a cloud-like appearance. Female plants produce small blue-black olive-like fruits that attract birds in late summer. Starting at $24.95.
Bloom season. New foliage emerges. Good planting window.
Active growing season.
Foliage may begin to change or drop. Ideal planting window.
Dormant — drops foliage. Can be planted in mild winter periods.
Plant in full sun for best flowering; partial afternoon shade improves foliage appearance in NE Florida's intense summer heat. Avoid deep shade, which reduces bloom.
Water regularly to establish; once established, tolerates moderate drought and even wet soils. Prefers consistently moist, acidic conditions — avoid overhead irrigation on foliage.
Thrives in moist, acidic (pH 4.5–6.5), well-drained to occasionally wet sandy or loamy soil. Fertilize lightly in spring with an acid-forming fertilizer; over-fertilizing promotes leggy growth at the expense of flowers.
