Oakland Holly (Ilex Oakland™ 'Magland') is an upright, pyramidal evergreen holly hybrid hardy to zone 9b, prized for its dense foliage and heavy production of red-orange berries from fall through winter. A self-fertile cultivar, it suits use as a specimen, screen, or hedge in NE Florida landscapes and attracts birds with its persistent berries. Starting at $125.00.

Retains foliage through winter. Can be planted in mild winter periods.
Oakland Holly thrives in full sun to partial shade. In NE Florida's hot summers, a site with afternoon shade reduces heat stress and maintains foliage quality; full sun produces the best berry set.
Water regularly during the establishment year; once established, Oakland Holly is moderately drought-tolerant. Avoid overwatering and wet soils, which are the primary cause of root rot in this cultivar. Mulch around the root zone to retain moisture and moderate soil temperature.
Plant in moist, slightly acidic (pH 5.5–6.5), well-drained sandy or loamy soil. Fertilize in early spring with a slow-release acid-forming fertilizer (azalea/camellia type) to maintain leaf color and growth. Prune lightly in early spring to shape; this cultivar self-pollinates and produces red-orange berries without a separate male.
