Coccoloba uvifera
Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 9.
Sea grape (Coccoloba uvifera) is a native coastal tree recognized for its large, round, leathery leaves with red veining and clusters of grape-like fruits that ripen from green to deep purple. The edible fruits attract wildlife and can be made into jelly. Highly salt tolerant and adapted to coastal NE Florida, it functions as a specimen tree, screen, or hedge, though it is cold-sensitive and may sustain frost damage in zone 9b during hard freezes. Starting at $7.95.

Retains foliage through winter.
Sea grape performs best in full sun in NE Florida. It tolerates light shade but produces the densest canopy and best fruit set in a sunny, open location. Avoid deep shade.
Moderate water needs; water regularly during establishment, then reduce to occasional deep watering once mature. Sea grape is moderately drought tolerant and highly salt tolerant once established in NE Florida's coastal sandy soils.
Thrives in well-drained sandy, alkaline coastal soils — the conditions typical of NE Florida beaches and coastal hammocks. Minimal fertilizer is needed; a balanced slow-release formula once in spring is sufficient. Avoid poorly drained or compacted sites.

Shares 6 of the same needs: full sun, moderate water, sandy, salt tolerance, zone 9a hardiness, and pollinator-friendly.
