European Fan Palm grows best in full sun and tolerates light shade. In NE Florida, plant in full sun to encourage dense, healthy frond growth. It handles the region's intense summer heat well once established.
Highly drought-tolerant once established; after the first year, this palm typically needs no supplemental irrigation in NE Florida except during severe extended droughts. Water regularly only during the establishment period (first 6-12 months). Excellent tolerance of Florida's sandy, fast-draining soils.
Grows in sandy or loamy well-drained soils common throughout NE Florida. Fertilize with a palm-specific slow-release fertilizer (8-2-12-4Mg analysis) in spring and mid-summer to prevent common palm micronutrient deficiencies. Do not remove yellowing older fronds, as they supply potassium to the palm.
