Retains foliage through winter. May need protection below 25°F.
Bottle Palm requires full sun to perform best; it will tolerate partial shade but grows even more slowly. Plant in the warmest, most sheltered microclimate available in NE Florida, such as a south-facing wall, to reduce freeze risk.
Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first two years after planting. Once established, Bottle Palm tolerates moderate drought, but performs best with consistent irrigation in NE Florida's sandy soils.
Plant in well-drained sandy or loamy soil. Feed with a palm-specific slow-release fertilizer containing magnesium and potassium in spring and summer; Florida's leaching sandy soils cause rapid potassium depletion.
