Encore Azaleas are trademarked reblooming Rhododendron hybrids that produce flushes of flowers in spring, summer, and fall — far more than traditional once-blooming azaleas. Compact, evergreen shrubs with blooms in pink, red, purple, white, and bicolors, they perform well in NE Florida zones 8-9b when given acidic, well-drained soil and morning sun. Starting at $14.95.

Retains foliage through winter.
Encore Azaleas perform best with morning sun and afternoon shade in NE Florida. At least 4-6 hours of filtered or dappled sunlight encourages repeat bloom; too much intense afternoon sun can scorch foliage and reduce flowering in Florida's summer heat.
Keep soil consistently moist but never waterlogged — azaleas have shallow roots that dry out quickly in sandy Florida soils. Mulch 2-3 inches around the base to retain moisture. Supplement rainfall during dry periods, especially the first two years after planting.
Requires well-drained, acidic soil with pH 4.5–5.5. Amend Florida's sandy soil with organic matter and test pH before planting. Apply an azalea-formulated slow-release acid fertilizer in spring after bloom, and again lightly in early summer; avoid late-season fertilizing that stimulates tender growth before cooler weather.
