Yucca thompsoniana
Fresh this week. Last restocked Jun 15.
Yucca Rostrata, commonly known as Beaked Yucca or Big Bend Yucca, is a dramatic tree-form yucca native to the Chihuahuan Desert of west Texas and northern Mexico. It develops a single or branching trunk topped with a symmetrical rosette of thin, silvery-blue leaves and produces tall spikes of white flowers in spring. Starting at $29.95.
Beaked Yucca demands full, unobstructed sun — the more the better. In NE Florida's humid climate, maximum sunlight and excellent air circulation are essential to keep foliage dry and prevent fungal leaf spot.
Very drought-tolerant; water only during establishment, then rely on rainfall. In Florida's wet summers, drainage is far more critical than irrigation — never let roots sit in wet soil. Root rot in poorly drained sites is the primary risk.
Plant in well-drained, sandy or gravelly soil with neutral to slightly alkaline pH. In NE Florida's sandy soils, drainage is naturally adequate. Fertilizer is unnecessary; do not amend with moisture-retentive organic matter, as this promotes root rot in humid conditions.
