Cornus foemina
Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 11.
Swamp Dogwood (Cornus foemina) is a native deciduous tree or large shrub found along stream banks and wetland margins. It bears flat clusters of small white flowers in spring followed by blue-black drupes favored by birds. Starting at $19.95.
Swamp Dogwood thrives in full sun to part shade in NE Florida. At least 4 hours of direct sun daily produces the best flowering and fruit set; it will tolerate filtered light along woodland edges near wet areas.
Keep soil consistently moist to wet; this native of swamp margins and stream banks tolerates periodic flooding. Supplemental irrigation is needed in NE Florida's dry season (Oct–May) if not planted in a naturally wet spot.
Plant in moist, acidic loam or clay. Sandy upland sites require organic amendment and reliable irrigation. Fertilize lightly in spring with a balanced slow-release fertilizer; avoid heavy feeding that promotes weak growth.
