American Snowbell performs in full sun to part shade; in NE Florida's intense heat, a site with morning sun and afternoon shade protects foliage and prolongs bloom. Consistent moisture is essential if grown in full sun.
Native to moist stream banks and wooded swamps, American Snowbell requires consistently moist to wet soil. In NE Florida, water deeply 1–2 times per week during dry periods and mulch heavily to retain soil moisture in sandy soils.
Prefers moist, cool, acidic soil rich in organic matter. In NE Florida, amend sandy soil generously with compost and maintain a thick mulch layer. Apply a slow-release acidifying fertilizer in early spring to support healthy growth.
