Rose of Sharon grows best in full sun to partial shade. In NE Florida, full sun with adequate moisture produces the most prolific bloom. Afternoon shade can reduce heat stress during peak summer.
Water regularly during the first season to establish a deep root system. Once established, Rose of Sharon tolerates brief drought but performs best with moderate, consistent moisture. Reduce watering in winter when the plant is dormant.
Adaptable to most well-drained soils including sandy Florida soils; amend with compost to improve moisture retention. Fertilize in spring with a balanced slow-release fertilizer. Prune lightly after bloom to maintain shape and encourage branching.
