May lose some foliage in cold snaps.
Extremely adaptable — grows in full sun, part sun, or part shade in NE Florida. Flowering is best in full sun to dappled light; dense shade reduces blooms. It is one of the most shade-tolerant flowering shrubs available for Florida landscapes.
Drought-tolerant once established in NE Florida's sandy soils; water regularly the first season, then reduce to occasional deep watering during dry spells. It tolerates brief flooding and moist conditions, making it well-suited to Florida's variable rainfall.
Unfussy about soil — performs in sandy, loamy, or clay soils with good to moderate drainage. Fertilize lightly with a balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring; excessive fertilization promotes lush foliage at the expense of flowers. Prune back hard in late winter to maintain size and encourage vigorous new flowering growth.
