Epipremnum pinnatum
Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 11.
Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) is a vigorous tropical vine from the Solomon Islands, prized as a houseplant and shaded patio container plant for its heart-shaped, waxy leaves splashed with gold or white variegation. In NE Florida zone 9b it is not frost-hardy and must be grown in containers that can be moved indoors during cold weather. Note: it is invasive if introduced into outdoor tropical habitats. Starting at $5.95.
Good planting window.
Can be planted with extra attention to watering.
Ideal planting window.
Retains foliage through winter. Can be planted in mild winter periods.
Pothos thrives in bright indirect light to moderate shade and tolerates low light better than most plants. Outdoors in NE Florida it should be placed in sheltered shade or dappled light — direct outdoor sun will scorch leaves. Best suited as a houseplant or shaded patio container plant in zone 9b, as it is not frost-hardy.
Water when the top inch of soil is dry; Pothos tolerates occasional drought but performs best with consistent moderate moisture. In NE Florida's warm, humid summers growth is rapid — check soil moisture more frequently. Always use well-drained potting mix and never allow the plant to sit in water.
Use a well-drained, fertile potting mix for container culture. Fertilize monthly spring through summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength; reduce or stop fertilizing in fall and winter. In zone 9b, keep containers mobile so plants can be brought indoors when temperatures drop below 50°F.
