Salvia lyrata
Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 11.
Lyreleaf Salvia (Salvia lyrata) is a native North American perennial wildflower found in open woodlands, roadsides, and disturbed areas across the eastern United States. It forms a basal rosette of deeply lobed, lyre-shaped leaves, often with attractive burgundy or purple mottling, and sends up square stems bearing whorls of light lavender-blue flowers in spring. A low-maintenance native that self-seeds freely and supports early-season pollinators. Starting at $7.95.
Bloom season. Good planting window.
Handles summer heat well once established.
Ideal planting window.
May lose some foliage in cold snaps.
Performs well in full sun to partial shade; in NE Florida's open woodlands and roadsides, it adapts to a range of light conditions and blooms most prolifically with morning sun and light afternoon shade.
Very drought tolerant once established; lyreleaf sage thrives on natural rainfall in NE Florida's sandy soils and requires no supplemental irrigation except during severe drought.
Grows in poor to average sandy or loamy soils with good drainage; fertilization is unnecessary and may reduce blooming. Self-seeds freely — allow seed heads to mature for naturalized spread across the landscape.
