Dracaena
Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 25.
Song of India (Dracaena reflexa) is a tropical shrub from Madagascar and the Indian Ocean islands with spirally arranged, narrow leaves typically edged in bright yellow or cream. Its sculptural form makes it a popular specimen plant in tropical landscapes and interior settings. Starting at $14.95.
Good planting window.
Can be planted with extra attention to watering.
Ideal planting window.
Retains foliage through winter. Can be planted in mild winter periods.
Grow dracaenas in bright indirect light or morning sun with afternoon shade; avoid full afternoon sun, which scorches and browns leaf tips. In NE Florida, a north or east exposure is ideal outdoors; containers can be moved inside during cold snaps.
Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil is dry, then allow the soil to dry slightly before watering again. Dracaenas are drought-tolerant and very sensitive to overwatering — root rot is the most common cause of decline in Florida's warm, humid conditions.
Plant in well-drained, organic-amended soil or a fast-draining container mix with perlite. Fertilize three times a year (spring, summer, early fall) with a balanced slow-release granular fertilizer; avoid over-fertilizing, which causes salt burn on leaf tips.
