Philodendron hederaceum
Fresh this week. Last restocked Jun 15.
Heartleaf philodendron (Philodendron hederaceum) is a vining tropical plant native to Central America and the Caribbean, valued as a houseplant for its heart-shaped, glossy, deep green leaves on slender, freely trailing or climbing stems. One of the most adaptable and forgiving houseplants, it thrives in a wide range of indoor conditions. Starting at $4.95.
Good planting window.
Can be planted with extra attention to watering.
Ideal planting window.
Retains foliage through winter. Can be planted in mild winter periods.
Heartleaf Philodendron thrives in partial to deep shade; direct sun fades and scorches the foliage. In NE Florida it makes an excellent shaded patio container plant or indoor specimen.
Water when the top inch of soil feels dry; allow soil to approach dryness between waterings but do not let it dry out completely. Reduce watering in winter. Florida's summer humidity reduces indoor supplemental watering needs.
Grow in a well-draining, fertile potting mix with perlite or orchid bark to prevent compaction. Feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength during the warm growing season. This plant is sold as a houseplant or container specimen in zone 9b — outdoor planting is not recommended as it is not frost-tolerant.
