Dieffenbachia
Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 4.
Dieffenbachia is a genus of robust tropical foliage plants from Central and South America, featuring large, boldly patterned leaves in combinations of dark green, cream, and yellow. A classic houseplant and interior landscaping staple, the genus contains numerous species and cultivars prized for their dramatic, variegated foliage. Starting at $29.95.
Good planting window.
Higher water demand in summer heat.
Ideal planting window.
Retains foliage through winter.
Prefers bright indirect light to partial shade; tolerates full shade but growth slows and foliage loses its bold pattern. Protect from direct Florida afternoon sun, which scorches the large leaves.
Water regularly, allowing the top inch of soil to dry between waterings; never let the plant sit in standing water. NE Florida's humidity is beneficial, but root rot occurs readily in soggy media — always use well-draining soil.
Use a quality, well-draining potting mix with a pH of 5.0–6.0. Fertilize with a balanced liquid fertilizer (3-1-2 NPK ratio) monthly during the growing season; reduce or stop feeding in cooler winter months.
