Crape jasmine (Tabernaemontana divaricata) is an evergreen tropical shrub native to South and Southeast Asia with glossy foliage and intensely fragrant, pinwheel-shaped pure white flowers produced nearly year-round. Crape jasmine thrives in full sun to part shade in Northeast Florida; partial shade (morning sun, afternoon shade) produces the best foliage and heaviest bloom in summer heat.
Water regularly to establish, then reduce to moderate irrigation; this shrub has good drought tolerance once rooted in well-drained soil and does not tolerate waterlogging.
Plant in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Fertilize with a balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring; avoid high-alkaline conditions and amend if needed to prevent chlorosis.
