Boltonia asteroides
Fresh this week. Last restocked Apr 14.
Boltonia (Boltonia asteroides) is a vigorous native perennial of eastern North America, forming tall clumps of narrow gray-green leaves topped with masses of small white to pale lavender daisy-like flowers from midsummer through fall. An excellent late-season nectar source for butterflies and bees, it thrives in moist to wet sunny sites and is a natural choice for rain gardens, pond edges, and pollinator plantings in NE Florida. Starting at $12.95.
Boltonia thrives in full sun and tolerates part shade; in full sun it produces the most flowers and stands more upright. In shadier spots, stems may become leggy and require staking — a common issue in Florida's partly shaded landscape beds.
Boltonia prefers consistently moist to wet soil and tolerates brief flooding, making it a great choice for rain gardens and pond margins in NE Florida. Water regularly; plants in drier soils will be shorter with fewer blooms. Established plants tolerate some drought but perform best with regular moisture.
Grows well in average to moist garden soil — loam, clay, or wet sites. A light balanced fertilizer in spring is sufficient; avoid heavy feeding which promotes lush growth prone to flopping. Cut back stems by one-third in late spring to reduce height and the need for staking. Divide clumps every 2–3 years to maintain vigor.
