Native to wet bottomlands; requires consistently moist to wet soil in NE Florida. Irrigate regularly, especially during spring fruit development and summer dry spells; tolerates periodic flooding.
Thrives in moist, acidic, sandy to loamy soils typical of NE Florida floodplains. Apply a balanced fruit-tree fertilizer in late winter before bloom; avoid excess nitrogen which promotes fire blight susceptibility.
