Hesperaloe parviflora
Fresh this week. Last restocked Apr 18.
Red Yucca (Hesperaloe parviflora) is a clump-forming evergreen perennial native to the Chihuahuan Desert of Texas and Mexico, bearing long, narrow, arching foliage with fibrous threads along the margins. Tall, arching flower stalks carry coral-red to deep rose tubular flowers beloved by hummingbirds, blooming from late spring through summer and often into fall. Despite the common name it is not a true yucca, but a member of the agave family noted for its outstanding drought tolerance. Starting at $16.95.

Bloom season. Ideal planting window.
Retains foliage through winter.
Requires full, hot sun for best flowering; in NE Florida's intense summer heat it thrives without shade. At least 6 hours of direct sun daily is needed — less sun dramatically reduces blooms.
Highly drought-tolerant once established — one of the most xeric perennials for NE Florida. Water sparingly; overwatering or poor drainage causes crown rot. No supplemental irrigation is needed after the first growing season except during extreme drought.
Demands sharply drained, sandy soil — NE Florida's sandy soils are ideal. Tolerates both acidic and alkaline pH. Avoid heavy clay, organically amended, or wet soils. Fertilizer is rarely needed; an annual light application of a balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring is optional.
