Teucrium chamaedrys
Fresh this week. Last restocked Jun 25.
Wall germander (Teucrium chamaedrys) is a compact, woody-based perennial subshrub native to Europe and southwestern Asia, producing dense, upright stems clothed in small, glossy, toothed leaves and spikes of small rosy-pink to purple flowers in summer. Historically used as a medicinal herb and ornamental edging plant. Suited to dry, sunny borders, rock gardens, and formal hedging. Starting at $7.95.
Good planting window.
Bloom season. Handles summer heat well once established.
Ideal planting window.
Retains foliage through winter.
Plant in full sun for best performance; tolerates part sun. In NE Florida's humid climate, maximum sun exposure and excellent air circulation reduce the risk of root rot and fungal issues on this drought-adapted Mediterranean plant.
Highly drought-tolerant once established — water only during prolonged dry spells. Overwatering and poorly drained soils are the primary failure point in humid NE Florida. Allow soil to dry fully between waterings.
Thrives in poor, dry, sandy or loamy neutral to alkaline well-drained soils. Avoid rich or moisture-retentive soils. No regular fertilizer needed; excess nutrients promote rank growth. Excellent choice for rock gardens, dry borders, or formal edging in NE Florida.
