Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 11.
Florida privet (Forestiera segregata) is a native evergreen shrub of Florida's coastal scrub and hammock habitats, bearing small inconspicuous flowers followed by tiny blue-black fruits eaten by a wide range of birds. Its tolerance of salt, drought, and poor soils makes it a workhorse in native coastal landscapes. Starting at $9.95.
Bloom season. Good planting window.
Handles summer heat well once established.
Ideal planting window.
Retains foliage through winter.
Thrives in full sun to part sun; full sun produces the densest foliage and best berry crop for wildlife. Easily adaptable to NE Florida's coastal conditions including salt spray exposure.
Highly drought tolerant once established; requires no supplemental irrigation in most NE Florida landscapes after the first year. Tolerates dry, sandy, or alkaline soils common to coastal NE Florida.
Thrives in NE Florida's sandy, alkaline, or shell-fragment soils without amendment. Fertilizer is not required for established plants; a light application of balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring can support faster establishment in new plantings.
