Taxodium ascendens
Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 11.
Pond Cypress (Taxodium ascendens) is a graceful, narrowly columnar deciduous conifer native to the southeastern coastal plain of North America, typically found growing in shallow standing water and poorly drained flatwoods. Unlike its close relative Bald Cypress, it has small, appressed, scale-like needles and a distinctly upright, slender form. Its feathery foliage turns russet-brown in autumn before dropping, and it often develops characteristic knobby "knees" in wet conditions. Starting at $24.95.

Pond Cypress thrives in full sun but tolerates light partial shade. In NE Florida, it is best placed in open, sunny sites near water features, retention ponds, or wet flatwoods where its narrow columnar form serves as a striking vertical accent.
Pond Cypress naturally grows in wet, swampy soils and tolerates extended flooding, but also adapts well to average well-drained landscape soils once established. In NE Florida, established trees are largely self-sufficient except during severe drought; water newly planted trees regularly for the first two growing seasons.
Adaptable to a wide range of soils — sandy, loamy, clay, wet or moderately dry — making it versatile for NE Florida conditions. Fertilize annually in late winter or early spring with a slow-release balanced tree fertilizer to maintain vigor; correct mite stress by keeping trees well-watered in dry summers.
