Peperomia
Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 13.
Peperomia (Peperomia spp.) is a large, diverse genus of compact tropical plants native to humid tropical regions worldwide, widely grown as low-maintenance houseplants and shaded patio container plants in Florida. Their fleshy, water-storing leaves come in a wide variety of textures and colors; they thrive on neglect, preferring bright indirect light, infrequent watering, and excellent drainage. Florida peperomia (P. obtusifolia) also works as an outdoor groundcover in shaded beds in zone 9b. Starting at $6.95.
Good planting window.
Active growing season.
Ideal planting window.
Retains foliage through winter.
Thrives in partial to deep shade; bright indirect light produces the best foliage and compact growth. Avoid direct afternoon sun, which can burn the fleshy leaves.
Allow soil to dry out between waterings — peperomia stores water in its fleshy leaves and is highly susceptible to root rot if overwatered. Water thoroughly, then let drain completely before watering again.
Use a well-drained houseplant or cactus potting mix. Fertilize lightly with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during the growing season; do not fertilize in winter. Repot only when root-bound.
