Retains foliage through winter.
Grows in full sun to partial shade; performs best with at least 4–6 hours of direct sun daily for dense growth and prolific flowering. Tolerates shadier spots but may spread more slowly.
Adaptable to dry and moist conditions once established; water regularly until rooted, then reduce irrigation. Tolerates occasional flooding and moderate drought — ideal for Florida's variable rainfall.
Extremely adaptable to sandy, clay, and loamy soils; tolerates poor fertility and does not require regular fertilization. Minimal inputs needed — excess nitrogen promotes excessive spread over flowering.

Shares 6 of the same needs: full sun, moderate water, sandy, salt tolerance, zone 9a hardiness, and pollinator-friendly.
