Stachys floridana
Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 9.
Florida betony (Stachys floridana) is a Florida native perennial in the mint family with square stems, scalloped leaves, and small tubular pink to white flowers attractive to native bees. It spreads aggressively via distinctive white, segmented, rattlesnake-like tubers that are nearly impossible to fully remove once established. UF/IFAS classifies this plant as a serious landscape weed; it is not recommended for intentional planting in garden or lawn settings. Starting at $7.95.

Active growing season.
Foliage may begin to change or drop. Ideal planting window.
Dormant — drops foliage.
Grows in full sun to partial shade and tolerates a wide range of light conditions. In NE Florida, it performs best with moderate sun and will emerge aggressively in fall after summer dormancy regardless of site exposure.
Tolerates both dry and moist soils; moderate irrigation supports active cool-season growth. In NE Florida's landscape beds, normal rainfall is typically sufficient during its fall-through-spring growing period.
Highly adaptable to sandy, loamy, or moist soils with no special pH requirements. Note: Florida betony is a prolific cool-season weed and is extremely difficult to eradicate once established due to persistent tubers — it is not recommended for intentional planting in garden beds.
