Dahlia
Fresh this week. Last restocked Jun 25.
Dahlias are tuberous perennials from the highlands of Mexico and Central America offering a vast range of flower forms — from small pompons to dinner-plate blooms — in virtually every color. In Northeast Florida (Zone 9b) they are grown as cool-season plants, planted in fall for winter-to-spring blooms, and may struggle in the intense summer heat and humidity. Starting at $6.95.

Choose a location with full sun and, if possible, light afternoon shade during the hottest months; dahlias in Northeast Florida perform best with morning sun and protection from intense midday heat.
Keep soil consistently moist but well-drained; water regularly and apply a thick layer of mulch to conserve moisture and moderate soil temperature. Avoid waterlogged conditions, which promote stem rot.
Plant in rich, well-drained soil amended with organic matter. Fertilize on a regular schedule during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer; avoid excess nitrogen. Tubers may overwinter in the ground in Zone 9b.
