Crocosmia
Fresh this week. Last restocked Apr 17.
Crocosmia (Crocosmia spp.) is a South African corm-forming perennial producing bold, sword-shaped foliage and arching sprays of tubular flowers in fiery red, orange, or yellow from late spring through summer. It spreads vigorously into clumps and thrives in NE Florida's heat, making a striking choice for perennial borders and pollinator gardens. Divide every 1–2 years to maintain performance. Starting at $49.95.
Crocosmia performs best in full sun for maximum flowering, but appreciates afternoon partial shade during NE Florida's intense midsummer heat to prolong bloom and prevent foliage stress. At least 6 hours of direct sun is ideal.
Water regularly during the growing season, providing about 1 inch per week, keeping soil evenly moist. Crocosmia is drought tolerant once established but do not let it dry out completely during bloom; avoid waterlogged conditions as corms will rot.
Plant corms 3–5 inches deep in well-drained, moderately fertile, slightly acidic soil. Divide crowded clumps every 1–2 years in spring to maintain vigor. Amend sandy Florida soils with compost; fertilize lightly in spring with a balanced slow-release fertilizer.
