Crassula
Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 11.
Crassula ovata (jade plant) is a slow-growing succulent shrub from South Africa with thick, glossy oval leaves on woody stems. In NE Florida it is best grown in containers that can be moved indoors during freezes, as it is frost-tender and not reliably hardy below 32°F. Starting at $24.95.
Crassula prefers bright indirect light to full sun; in NE Florida, afternoon shade is beneficial during summer to prevent scorching. Indoors, place near a bright south- or east-facing window.
Water deeply then allow soil to dry out completely between waterings; in Florida's rainy season reduce watering to near zero and ensure excellent drainage to prevent fatal root rot.
Use fast-draining cactus/succulent mix or sandy soil amended with perlite. Fertilize lightly once in spring with a diluted balanced fertilizer; avoid feeding in summer or winter.
Crassula is a succulent for Zone 9b coastal Florida gardens, reaching 6 inches-4 feet × 2-3 feet.
