Bellflowers (Campanula spp.) are a diverse genus of bell- or star-shaped flowering plants in shades of blue, violet, pink, and white. Most species are rated zones 3–8 and are poorly adapted to NE Florida's heat and humidity; they are best used as short-lived cool-season annuals planted in fall or early spring in zone 9b. Starting at $18.95.

Most Campanula species are intolerant of NE Florida's intense full sun and high nighttime temperatures. Provide afternoon shade and select the most heat-tolerant species; treat as a cool-season annual planted in fall or early spring for best performance in zone 9b.
Keep soil consistently moist; bellflowers do not tolerate drought or waterlogging. In NE Florida's sandy soils, mulch heavily to retain moisture and cool the root zone. Water 2–3 times per week during warm, dry periods.
Plant in well-drained, fertile, slightly acidic to neutral loamy or sandy soil. Amend with compost to improve moisture retention. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer at planting; excessive fertilizer promotes foliage at the expense of blooms.
