Bloom season. Retains foliage through winter.
Brazilian Red Cloak grows best in full sun to partial shade; full sun produces the most prolific blooming, while filtered shade prevents leaf burn during NE Florida's hottest months. Avoid dense shade, which greatly reduces flowering.
Keep soil consistently moist but well-drained; native to Venezuelan rainforests, this plant appreciates regular watering. In NE Florida's sandy soils, water deeply 2–3 times per week during dry spells and mulch well to retain moisture.
Plant in well-drained soil amended with organic matter such as compost or composted cow manure. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring; the plant is a fast feeder and benefits from supplemental feeding mid-summer.
