Asparagus falcatus
Fresh this week. Last restocked Jun 25.
Sicklethorn (Asparagus falcatus) is a vigorous woody scrambling vine from tropical Africa and Asia that grows well in NE Florida zone 9b. Its sickle-shaped cladodes, recurved thorns, and fragrant white spring flowers give it ornamental appeal, but plant with caution as related Asparagus species are invasive in Florida and bird-dispersed berries can spread the plant to natural areas. Starting at $6.95.

Sicklethorn asparagus fern tolerates a range of light from part sun to full shade; it grows most vigorously in bright indirect light. In NE Florida it can spread aggressively in shaded understory areas and should be planted with caution.
Once established, sicklethorn is moderately drought tolerant; water regularly during establishment but reduce once rooted. Avoid overwatering in heavy or poorly drained soils.
Adaptable to most well-drained soils; amend with compost to improve sandy Florida soil. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring. Note: related Asparagus species are invasive in Florida; monitor and contain to prevent naturalization.
