Selenicereus anthonyanus
Fresh this week. Last restocked Jun 25.
An epiphytic cactus native to Mexico with distinctively flat, deeply notched stems that alternate in a dramatic zigzag or fishbone pattern. A night-blooming species, it produces large, fragrant white to pale pink flowers that open in the evening and close by morning. Starting at $2.99.
Provide bright indirect light or morning sun with afternoon shade; direct NE Florida sun will scorch the flat stems. A covered patio, shaded lanai, or spot under a large tree is ideal for outdoor growing.
Water when the growing medium is almost completely dry; this epiphytic cactus rots quickly in soggy conditions. NE Florida's ambient humidity reduces supplemental moisture needs. During winter, water sparingly to encourage blooming.
Use a light, fast-draining epiphytic mix of orchid bark, perlite, and peat (approximately 60% potting mix / 40% perlite). Fertilize monthly during spring and summer with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer. This species is cold-sensitive (zones 10–12); in NE Florida it must be grown in a container and brought indoors when temperatures drop below 50°F.
