Foliage may begin to change or drop.
Dormant — drops foliage. Can be planted in mild winter periods.
Pomegranate requires full sun — a minimum of 8 hours daily — for best fruiting and ornamental performance. In NE Florida's long, sunny growing season this requirement is easily met; avoid shaded or crowded planting sites.
Water regularly during establishment and throughout the growing season; once established, pomegranate is moderately drought-tolerant. Consistent moisture during fruit development reduces splitting. In NE Florida's sandy soils, mulch heavily and water 1–2 times per week during dry periods; reduce after harvest.
Pomegranate adapts to NE Florida's well-drained sandy or loamy soils; amend with compost to improve moisture retention. Fertilize in early spring and again in early summer with a balanced fertilizer; select early-ripening, anthracnose-resistant cultivars (not 'Wonderful') to avoid Florida's wet-season disease pressure.
