Paspalum notatum
Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 11.
Bahia grass (Paspalum notatum) is a coarse-textured, warm-season perennial grass native to South America, widely naturalized throughout the southeastern United States and Florida. It is valued for its exceptional heat, drought, and wear tolerance, and is commonly used for turf, roadside stabilization, and pasture. Starting at $14.95.
Good planting window.
Bloom season. Handles summer heat well once established.
Growth slows as temperatures cool.
May lose some foliage in cold snaps.
Bahiagrass requires full sun and performs poorly in shade. In NE Florida it is one of the most sun-tolerant and heat-durable lawn grasses available, thriving in the intense summer sun that challenges other turf species.
Bahiagrass is highly drought tolerant due to its deep root system and requires minimal supplemental irrigation once established. Per UF/IFAS, apply 0.5–0.75 inch of water when the grass shows early wilt signs; avoid frequent shallow watering to encourage deep root development.
Thrives in NE Florida's sandy, acidic soils (optimal pH 5.5). Per UF/IFAS, fertilize with no more than 1 lb nitrogen per 1,000 sq ft application; apply from March through October. Argentine variety is recommended for home lawns for its dark color and density.
