Clumping Bambusa species perform best in full sun to part sun in NE Florida, needing at least 4–6 hours of direct light daily for vigorous growth. Full sun promotes the fastest establishment and densest screening habit.
Water regularly during establishment; once established, clumping bamboo tolerates moderate drought but grows most vigorously with consistent moisture. Mulch heavily around the base to retain soil moisture in NE Florida's sandy soils.
Plant in well-draining soil of any type; clumping bamboo tolerates sandy Florida soils with mulch. Per UF/IFAS, apply a slow-release fertilizer low in phosphorus (e.g., 18-6-12) twice yearly; avoid high-phosphorus products. Only plant clumping (non-running) Bambusa species — running bamboos are invasive and not recommended for Florida landscapes.
