In bloom. Retains foliage through winter. May need protection below 25°F.
Panama rose blooms most prolifically in full sun (6+ hours daily) but tolerates partial shade. In NE Florida zone 9b, afternoon shade during peak summer heat helps prolong flowering and reduce stress on the plant.
Water regularly while establishing; once mature, Panama rose has moderate drought tolerance. Maintain consistent moisture during the blooming season for best flower production. Avoid waterlogged soils, which cause root rot.
Adapts well to Florida's sandy soils; amend with compost at planting for better establishment. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring and again in midsummer. Prune lightly after bloom cycles to maintain shape and encourage re-blooming.
